Nicole Gormley and Debra Aroko won an award following the film's world premiere on June 8th.
This is HUGE NEWS! The Directors of the new documentary "Searching for Amani", Nicole Gormley and Debra Aroko, just won the ALBERT MAYSLES AWARD FOR BEST NEW DOCUMENTARY DIRECTOR(S) at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Congrats to the entire team!
Jury statement: “Exquisitely crafted with a taut narrative, this documentary paints a nuanced portrait of issues that often are ignored or worse unknown by those outside of a community. It is extremely difficult to take a topic that affects the world, and to tell a story about that topic in an intimate and personal fashion that is both subversive and charming. So much of the success of a documentary is based on its main character, and the passion, curiosity, and relentlessness of 13 year old Simon Ali was awe inspiring.”
Thank you to everyone who came out to see this powerful film in New York. We’re so touched by the response the film is getting from audiences so far!
Later this week, the film will have its European Premiere on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Raindance Film Festival in London. The film will screen at 6:00 PM at Prince Charles Cinema.
